Southdown Velo - who are they?

Chichester, West Sussex

Southdown Velo is a friendly cycling club based around the historic City of Chichester and its unique cathedral.

Most members live in Chichester and the surrounding area. Today we number over fifty members with ages ranging from eight years old to seventy.

Some members are hardened racers, whilst others just enjoy the pleasure of pottering around the lanes of the beautiful Southdowns.

Finally, we have tributes to our founder John JP Pendleton without whom we wouldn't exist today.

The word Down in Southdowns originates from the Saxon word for hill. So they are literally the South Hills.

The Velo formed at the end of 1980 and members first saw action in 1981.

Our jerseys now carry the initials JP in honour of our founder John Pendleton.
