About Southdown Velo
Southdown Velo is a friendly cycling club based around the historic City of Chichester.
Southdown Velo welcomes racing and non-racing members and supporters of all ages and abilities, all united in their passion for cycling. Most members live in Chichester and the surrounding area. Today we number nearly one hundred and fifty members with ages ranging from eight years old to seventy.
We have riders who regularly win races, some who are just happy to finish and some who never race. The important thing is that they all enjoy themselves.
Southdown Velo riders take part in road races, cyclo-cross, time trials, mountain bike races and sportives such as L'Etape du Tour.
We race regularly at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth or Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey. For the youths (under 16) there is Angmering Raceway on a Monday night. We also race in Surrey League races, which are typically held on the Surrey/Sussex border areas and local time trials.
Over the years we have raced in Ireland, France, Belgium, Holland and even Cyprus. During 2010 we rode the world cyclo-cross masters championships at Mol in Belgium.
