Southdown Velo - Goodwood Summer Series 2017

In 2014 Southdown Velo cycling club based in Chichester are organising a new race series to be known The Southdown Velo Goodwood Summer Series. The 2017 series will comprise 10 weekly events commencing on 25th April and each Tuesday evening for the following 6 weeks.  There will be a break in June and re-commence on  Tuesday 4th July 2017 culminating in a 'four up' Time Trial on the 25th July.

On Saturday and Sunday 25/27th August 2017 there will be a 'Chichester Festival of Cycling'.

The races are all authorised by the British Cycling Federation, as the national governing body for cycling in GB. Riders who gain success in the individual races will receive category points awarded by British Cycling, which is likely to make the event popular to cycle racers from across the South and South East.

On each Tuesday evening there will be a Youth race starting at 6.30pm – all ages and both male and female riders competing together. The race will be restricted to a maximum of 6o riders with a mass start with categories required to complete laps of the circuit as appropriate to their age.

Following the youth race at 7pm there will be an E/1/2/3/4 categories senior race both male and female riders competing together. The race will be restricted to 120 riders with a mass start and all categories required to complete upwards of 15 laps of the circuit.

Goodwood Racing Circuit is a historic venue for both two and four wheeled events.  The 2.4 mile (3.8k) track is situated near Chichester, West Sussex on the estate of Goodwood House and completely encircles the Chichester/Goodwood airfield.

The circuit will be open to spectators before and during the event.  Traditionally cycling events have not attracted a wide audience other than family and friends of the participants.  Goodwood, however, is different with a long history of spectator involvement stretching from last years appearance of Sir Chris Hoy MBE  leading a 72 rider, two lap demonstration to mark the 100th year of the Tour de France to the 1982 UCI Road World Championship
